LAST CALL FOR VOTES (of 2) moderated group soc.culture.galiza Newsgroups line: soc.culture.galiza Galicia, on the Iberian Peninsula. (Moderated) Votes must be received by 23:59:59 UTC, 26 Mar 1997. This vote is being conducted by a neutral third party. Questions about the proposed group should be directed to the proponent(s). Proponent: Luis A. Perez Carrasco Proponent: Xose Manuel Dieguez Perez Proponent: Manuel Carro Proponent: Xabier Boullon-Agrelo Proponent: Anxo Sanchez Proponent: Xurxo Duran Laguna Mentor: Mark James Votetaker: Jeremy Billones RATIONALE: soc.culture.galiza There is a strong feeling in the Galician community spread all over the world for the need of a forum where they, and other people, can exchange information about Galicia, her culture, and the future development of the country. Although there are presently some mailing lists which have as discussion topics the Galician language and culture, there is currently no newsgroup with which Galicians abroad can keep a link with their homeland for discussing Galician topics in a broad sense. Those discussions would not be appropriate in a general newsgroup, such as soc.culture.spain, especially if they are made using Galician, which most Spaniards will not fully understand. Discussions would take place mainly in Galician, resorting to Portuguese, English or Spanish if this is needed for a complete understanding. A note on the name: "Galiza" was chosen in preference to "Galicia", after extensive consultations with group-advice and group-mentors, in order to avoid confusion with the Galicia in Poland. CHARTER: soc.culture.galiza The newsgroup soc.culture.galiza is intended for discussion of topics related to Galicia, Iberian Peninsula: history, current affairs, future political and economic development, culture and traditions, language, and relationships with other countries. Moderation Policy: Soc.culture.galiza will only employ robomoderation. Human moderation is NOT included. 1. The robomoderator will screen every article submitted to soc.culture.galiza. It will unequivocally reject any article crossposted to four or more newsgroups other than soc.culture.galiza. 2. The robomoderator, when rejecting a submission, shall send the submission's author a copy of the moderation policy statement and an explanation as to why the submission was not posted. 3. In case of technical difficulties with the software used for moderation (see Moderator Info), the contact person will be Ramon Flores Seija Amending This Charter: For the readers of soc.culture.galiza to change or amend this Charter or moderation policy, a formal RFD followed by a CFV must be posted to soc.culture.galiza and news.groups. The procedure must follow the standard guidelines for a newsgroup status change as described in the news.groups FAQ. END CHARTER.
